Broadcaster Andrew Castle reveals his drink spiking experience live on air

Ex British no.1 tennis star, Andrew Castle, revealed in an LBC interview how he unwittingly drank a spiked drink. Mr Castle was talking to Dawn Dines, founder of Stamp Out Spiking and StopTopps on an LBC talk show when he recounted his harrowing drink spiking experience, which happened several years ago.

Beyond Function

He told Dawn how he was ‘beyond function’ after drinking from a spiked drink in central London on a night out back in 2003. He went on to describe how he knew that he’d been spiked because  ‘there’s a ‘big difference between having your drink spiked and having too much to drink’. He continued ‘I was rolling around in agony for a whole day’

Unbelievably inappropriate

Mr Castle told Dawn how a woman got into a cab with him and started acting ‘unbelievably inappropriately’. He went on to say how some years later he saw a photo of this same woman in a newspaper – it seems she had been caught  blackmailing using a similar ruse.

It can happen to anyone

While Mr Castle continued to say that was very aware that his experience was ‘not the same as a young woman being attacked’ it does demonstrate how drink spiking can happen to anyone, and how dangerous it can be leaving the victim incredibly vulnerable

Thank you

Stamp Out Spiking would like to thank Andrew Castle for his bravery in telling us his harrowing story of spiking, and being so forthright about his dreadful experience. We know that spiking is a crime about which many victims never speak. It is vital that we raise awareness of this insidious crime in all its forms, so that people know what to look out for and how best to protect themselves.

Drink spiking does not discriminate

Although we know that young women are most likely to be victims of drink spiking, this story reminds us that drink spiking does not discriminate; it can happen to anyone at any time.
